First Day of School 1939

This is my father, Curt Schindler, when he was seven years old on his first day of school in early September 1939. Notice the beret, the leather jacket, and the “Schultüte” (a school cone filled with fruits, nuts, some candy). The photograph was taken in St. Avold, in Lothringen Germany (After the end of the second world war this part of Germany reverted back to France).
